LOAD SHED
In the LOAD SHED video game, players are thrust into the high-stakes world of power grid management, where the balance of four critical generators determines the fate of a bustling city. Each generator powers a unique district, and it's up to you to coordinate activities—to prevent overloads and blackouts.
But this isn't just a game. During our game jam, one of our team members, McCarthy, based in Africa, faced actual load shedding, where he grappled with power outages and disruptions caused by unreliable electricity. His resilience and determination to contribute, despite these challenges, inspired us deeply. His firsthand experiences with unreliable electricity highlighted the profound impact of infrastructure deficits on daily life and productivity.
Through engaging gameplay and strategic decision-making, LOAD SHED aims to raise awareness about the impact of inadequate infrastructure on communities worldwide. In many regions, frequent power outages disrupt education, healthcare, and livelihoods, exacerbating inequalities and hindering progress. By simulating these challenges, we hope to foster empathy and understanding, highlighting the importance of reliable infrastructure and the human stories behind the statistics.
Join us in shedding light on this critical issue—not just to keep the lights on in the game, but to shine a light on the real-world issues that affect millions daily.
